Important questions asked after the visit of the brown bear in the Białowieża Forest

The Mammal Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Białowieża, in the journal Global Ecology and Conservation, has published an article describing the brown bear that came to us from Belarus. The team analyzed the potential impact of bears on lowland ecosystems in Central Europe. Based on a review of the literature, he also discussed issues related to the management and conservation of the bear population in order to take measures to minimize potential conflicts, comply with legal obligations and effectively protect the species.

We are glad that the employees of the Forest Research Institute (ForBioSensing team) were the first to observe a bear in the Polish part of the Białowieża Forest on June 14, 2019. It was the first reliable observation of this animal in several decades. They also initiated further activities and a discussion on this issue.

We wrote about the backstage of meeting a bear and the feelings accompanying employees during face-to-face contact with a predator in the news item "The first meeting - Bear in the Białowieża Forest (testimony of witnesses!)": http://www.forbiosensing.pl/wyszkuje/-/journal_content/56/20182/55664.

Polsat News also informed about the event: https://www.polsatnews.pl/wiadomosc/2019-06-18/niedzwiedz-w-polskiej-czesci-puszczy-bialowieskiej-po-raz-pierwszy-od-kilkuśmieieciu-lat/
