ForBioSensing - "School Day" 2018 in Białowieża
On September 10, 2018, the ForBioSensing team took part in the "Day for Schools" 2018 in Białowieża. The event was organized by the Forest Research Institute and the Forest Technical School in Białowieża, as it was very popular every year. Young people to whom the meeting was addressed came in large numbers - 180 high school students and guardians took part in the event.
"School Day" from its first edition (ie from 2016), it is oriented towards the education of high school youth from the Białowieża Forest region. She has the opportunity to take part in many interesting presentations, lectures and competitions organized, among others by the Forest Research Institute, including our project, which had the opportunity to participate in the organization of this year's event. An environmental contest was organized, in which the judges were employees of scientific institutions: the Forest Research Institute, PAS Biology Institute in Białowieża, Białowieski National Park, Branch Forest Department in Hajnówka and Forest Technical School in Białowieża, including our specialists - field project employees ForBioSensing from the Natural Forests Plant in Białowieża.
They sat at 10 positions with various competition competitions. Among them were, among others, such competitions as: "Voices of animals" - the task of pupils was to guess the sounds of various animal species, eg mammals, reptiles, and determine their habitats using only the sense of hearing. The "Sokole oko" competition was also popular, during which students could boast of the ability to accurately shoot a shield with an airgun. Competing students showed cleverness, field orientation and knowledge of forest knowledge.
At the end of the exciting day, there was a bonfire during which the results of the competition were announced and prizes donated by the sponsors were presented. The ForBioSensing project also had its share in it - it funded prizes in the form of promotional t-shirts, the draw has become one of the main attractions of the bonfire.
